What is Foremost?
About a year ago, I came upon some statistics that confirmed what I already suspected in my heart. According a study by Barna:
- Only three out of ten church-going adults (29%) indicated that they view worship as something that is focused primarily on God.
- For most Americans worship is to satisfy or please them, not to honor or please God. Amazingly, few worship-service regulars argue that worship is something they do primarily for God; a substantially larger percentage of attenders claim that attending worship services is something that they do for personal benefit and pleasure.
- One out of every five attenders admitted that they had no idea what the most important outcome of worship is.
- Only 4 out of 10 Pastors indicated worship as a Top 3 priority in their churches.
Over the past 5 years I’ve had the opportunity to get a unique perspective on the Church of America. I serve with a Ministry called Time To Revive and the mission is to Equip the Saints for the return of Christ. So when we’re invited into a city we work to cultivate what the Lord is already doing there to bring the Church together and bring His Kingdom into that community. I’ve been able to serve in nearly 50 communities coming along side community, church and worship leaders to build up the Church in our nation. It has developed in me an incredible love for the Church, but it has also allowed me to see the glaring weaknesses in the Body of Christ.
I know it sounds cliche, but the reason I’ve developed this resource is because I’ve begun to feel the heart of the Father…I’ve felt some of the hurt and grieving He feels. I sense Him saying He longs for His Bride to put Him back at the center of the Church. His heart is for us to fulfill the Greatest Commandment first…before anything else.
BIBLICAL PATTERN
There’s a pattern that can be clearly seen in Scripture; GOD LIKES TO BE FIRST! So does that mean He’s an egotist or extremely competitive? Is He a “ball-hog”, always needing the spotlight? Either He has an incredible co-dependent jealousy, or His jealousy is rooted in something else all together. I’m convinced the later is true and it is based out of His love, not His selfishness. It really has more to do with us than it does Him. So, let’s look at the pattern.
- First and Greatest Commandment (Deut 6:4-7, Matt 22:37, Luke 10:27, Mark 12:30)
- Relationship was most important to Him
- Only He can fill our greatest need
- Seek First
- God knows we will worship something…
- If we don’t FIRST…we likely won’t
- First Love (Rev 2:4)
- Love is defined by Him
- Our hearts are prone to wander
- Author and Perfecter -Heb 10:24
- It all starts with Him…He IS first and we need reminded.
THE RESOURCES
So going back to the stats at the beginning of this post. It is evident that something is off. There are tons of resources out there equipping church and worship leaders to pull off excellent Sunday services or grow their churches. Bunches of products and tools to up your ministry game, but I’ve found very few that are primarily focused on making Jesus THE focus. So, that’s what this is. Foremost Worship is focused on equipping you to love Jesus first and foremost in your life and ministry. Some of the things you will find here are:
